2017 Welcoming Week OttawaFebruary 17, 2017
Welcome to the Welcoming Ottawa Week (WOW) 2017 portal! Here you can find news about the fifth annual WOW, information about the planned events and a list of community partners and sponsors.
WOW is an annual, week-long series of dialogues, cultural and celebratory events, sports activities, documentary screenings, and other fun events designed to convey the genuine welcome and hospitality of Ottawa to newcomers. It provides opportunities for quality interactions among residents, long-term and new.

This year, WOW will pay special tribute to Canada’s 150th anniversary by soliciting and promoting events that:
- reflect on the less told history and contributions of immigrants and how these have shaped our city, neighbourhoods, schools, classrooms or workplaces; or
- bring attention to on-going efforts to build bridges of connectivity, solidarity, and shared civic identity among Ottawa residents with diverse backgrounds.
What better way to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary than by hosting an event that brings together Ottawa’s newcomers and long-time residents!
Not sure where to begin? Here are some suggestions for topics for WOW events.
Already planning a Canada 150 event? Make it a little more diverse by adding a WOW component.

2017 WOW Chairs
Two well-known Ottawa immigrant champions – Louisa Taylor and Sarah Onyango are the honorary Co-Chairs of the 2017 WOW Campaign.
