It is with profound joy, I would like to share with you a very encouraging action plan that the Mayor Jim Watson of City of Ottawa has agreed to take: The proclamation of 21st February as the International Mother Language Day (IMLD) for the City of Ottawa. On behalf of Bangla Caravan- a community organization in collaboration with Pro-active Education for All Children’s
Enrichment (PEACE), a Not for Profit Organization, please allow me to invite you to attend this very important historical event that would inspire many members of Ottawa’s multicultural communities. In this context, it is pertinent to mention that the 21st February commemorates the Bengali Language Movement in 1952. The UNESCO General Assembly proclaimed the 21st February as the IMLD in November 1999, and in May 2009, the UN General Assembly called
upon the member states “to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by people of the world”. IMLD has been observed annually since 2000 to promote diversity, peace and multilingualism around the world. Therefore, official proclamation of the IMLD in Ottawa, the Capital City of Canada
