OLIP Contributes to Consultations on Ontario’s New Anti-Racism Directorate

The OLIP Secretariat, partners and community contacts participated in consultations in December 2016 on how Ontario’s new Anti-Racism Directorate can address systemic racism. Among the issues we raised: the importance of understanding the intersection of immigration and race, including how settlement patterns shape experiences of racism; the value of institutions collecting disaggregated race-based data for monitoring and accountability; and the need to address organizational cultures and practices as well as training and other measures to address systemic racism.
