Everybody Rows Ottawa

ERO programming typically involves one or more sessions that take place at the Ottawa Rowing Club, and that run for approximately two hours at a time. Participants will begin with an introductory session inside of our boathouse, and experienced instructors will run a session indoors for the first hour. This will involve exploration of the basic rowing stroke on rowing machines, ensuring that participants do not get injured when they attempt to row on the water. Their newly acquired skills will be put to the test with fun team workouts, and other games on the machines. After the first hour, participants will then get the chance to explore the rowing stroke on water. The boats used will depend on the developmental and comfort levels of the participants, but will ensure that every new rower will get the chance to experience rowing at a level that is challenging yet enjoyable for them. After the on-water portion, everyone gathers together to discuss their favourite/least favourite elements of the session for some feedback, and then they are free to go. Programming can also be adapted to the needs/preferences of certain groups. Some groups may not be comfortable going on the water, so more time would be spent indoors playing some games and exploring various functions of the rowing machine. Repeat groups will spend less time on the rowing machines because they already have experience with the rowing stroke.
