Two pediatric residents at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, Canada, saw the need for preventive mental health and resilience programs in schools. Before this project, there were no resident-led, community-based child advocacy initiatives in Ottawa. In 2016-17, the two residents held bi-weekly workshops at an urban elementary school. This school serves many students with high socioeconomic, academic, and cultural needs, including many immigrant and refugee families.
