Gender roles and relations affect both the reasons for and the experiences of health worker migration. However, policy responses often overlook these gender aspects. This lack of focus from the perspective of source countries can lead to weak policy responses. An analysis of health worker emigration from South Africa, India, and the Philippines shows that gender can influence access to health worker training, job opportunities, and migration.
