We propose a unifying framework for multidisciplinary stepped care programs for chronic pain. We present its use at The Ottawa Hospital Pain Clinic. The Ottawa Hospital stepped care framework has eight tiers. It allows patients to work together with a health care professional to choose the best treatment program for managing chronic pain. As the levels of stepped care increase, the time and resources needed for each step also increase.
