Second-generation immigrants’ identity-building: Exploring identity issues of people belonging to “Black” communities

Second-generation immigrants in Canada face many identity challenges. For those in “black” communities, these challenges often grow due to regular experiences of discrimination and exclusion. To understand their views on these identity issues, we collected testimonies from eight social media sources in Canada and Europe. The results show that “black” second-generation migrants deal with an identity process shaped by various exclusion dynamics.
