Mental Health of Ottawa’s Black Community

There is a lack of representation in the current data about the views, experiences, and needs of Ottawa’s African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) community regarding mental health services. This study aims to fill the gaps in understanding the barriers to access, which are both structural and systemic.

While ACB participants who have used mental health services are mostly satisfied, many issues and obstacles still prevent others from getting the care they need. Ongoing stigma, based on cultural sensitivities, racism, and discrimination, is a major risk factor.
