Join Refugee 613 for a special WOW Week interactive event as we unveil our new Language Matrix — a research-informed tool developed to help organizations make more equitable, evidence-based decisions when choosing languages to translate content for newcomer audiences. The Language Matrix was developed by Refugee 613 through funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Newcomer Info Hub project, with additional support from the Language Keepers micro grant from MCIS Language Solutions. It is an equity and needs-based tool designed to guide decisions on which languages to prioritize when translating vital information for newcomers.
We will present early findings and community insights that shaped the matrix, and offer a walkthrough of how the matrix can guide translation decisions. The event will include a collaborative validation session where we welcome your input to strengthen this tool and make it more useful and inclusive for everyone producing resources for newcomers.
