COVID-19 Updates

April 21, 2020

OLIP is supporting its partners, stakeholders and the community during the COVID pandemic in the following four ways:

accelerating information flow between partners;
convening weekly meetings to mobilize and coordinate actions focused on mitigating the health risks facing immigrants and racialized populations;
contributing to LASI’s Operational Table to retool settlement services during the pandemic, and to the City of Ottawa’s Human Needs Task Force;
collecting data and research in support of collaborative initiatives.

Various support and services programs residents can access during COVID-19. Services available include housing and emergency financial assistance.
Buy Local campaign
The City of Ottawa has launched a campaign encouraging residents to buy local to support local businesses during COVID-19.
City Of Ottawa’s Economic Support and Recovery
This webpage lists various economic measures put in place by the City of Ottawa to support individuals and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ontario’s Action Plan to Combat COVID-19
The Ontario government has committed $17 billion to support the health care system, communities and economy during COVID-19.
Ontario funding Support for Families
Families incurring costs to buy education materials for their children while schools are closed during COVID-19 are eligible to apply for the province’s financial support.
Government of Ontario’s Electricity Relief to Families, Small Businesses and Farms
The Ontario government has announced it will hold the electricity prices to the off-pick rate of 10.1 cents per kilowatt-hour starting from March 25^th.
Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan (Support for Individuals and Businesses)
The federal government has put in place numerous programs to help individuals and businesses weather impacts of COVID-19.

Changes to OHIP
The Government of Ontario has instructed all hospitals in the province to not deny anyone access to health services because they’re uninsured during the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals are advised to bring this information with them to the hospital (take a screenshot or write the link on a piece of paper) in case some healthcare professionals are not aware of the changes.
Ontario Calls on all Health Care Workers to Help Fight COVID-19
The Ontario Government has launched an online portal to match health care workers (including those trained abroad) with employers so they can assist in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
