The Pathways to Prosperity Partnership (P2P) will hold its first annual conference at the Minto Suite Hotel in Ottawa starting at 2:00 p.m. on November 15th and finishing at 1:00 p.m. on November 16th.The P2P conference directly follows CIC’s National Settlement Conference so that attendees at CIC’s event can stay on for an additional day and participate in the P2P conference.Blocks of rooms have been reserved at both the Delta Hotel (quote 1113PATH for the conference rate or book online at https://www.deltahotels.com/Groups/Delta-Ottawa-City-Centre-Groups/Pathways-To-Prosperity-Partnership) and the Minto Suites Hotel (quote 603654 for the conference rate). The two hotels are only one block apart.

The P2P conference will focus on four main topics:

  1. Agency of the Future: The P2P conference will examine the key components of the Agency of the Future project: a process for identifying new lines of business for the settlement sector; ensuring that promising practices in these areas are shared widely through an innovation cycle that underpins agency change; and the institutional machinery and processes that will transmit information across agencies.
  2. Local Immigration Partnerships and Other Place-Based Initiatives: The conference will examine the progress that LIPs have made against the initiative’s strategic objectives and provide advice for new LIPs in the process of development. The focus will be on promising practices and the conditions and processes that would need to be replicated for the practices to be transferred elsewhere.
  3. Downstream Responses to Changing Selection Processes: The conference will explore the role of settlement organizations and academic institutions in responding to the needs of increasing numbers of international students, and factors affecting the economic and social integration of those students who choose to transition to permanent residency. The conference will also explore the role of employers and employment councils in bridging immigrant absorption and integration.
  4. Results of Settlement Outcomes Surveys: The conference will include a session at which the results of several settlement outcome surveys conducted in Canada will be presented. These surveys provide a snapshot of the economic and social outcomes of recent immigrants, and their reported settlement needs.

Within these topics, special attention will be paid to Francophone minorities outside of Quebec and Northern & remote communities.

On the evening of November 15th, a poster session will be held to showcase the work of P2P members (see below for details on how to submit a poster proposal).

On November 16th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., a P2P Board of Governor’s meeting will be held, as well as a dedicated meeting for P2P student representatives. Invitations and agendas for both meetings will be sent out in the coming weeks.

Conference space is limited to 200 participants. Attendees will include P2P researchers, settlement agency representatives, LIP coordinators, and policy and program officials from the three orders of government.
