Multiculturalism and gender sensitive care
When: Wednesday 27 November 2013 (5-8PM)
Where: Bruyere Hospital, Gillbert Paquette Garden, 6th Floor, 43 Bruyere Research Institute
To advance our evidence-based knowledge on Multiculturalism and Immigrant Health, we conducted our first annual workshop in 2012 on Multiculturalism and Care for the Elderly. This year, we are conducting our second annual workshop on Multiculturalism and Gender Sensitive Care.
The workshop is being offered in partnership with the Immigrant and Racialized Women’s Health Project (IRWHP), the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP) & Canadian Collaboration for Immigrant and Refugee Health (CCIRH), Bruyere Research Institute, University of Ottawa.
This workshop is intended for decision makers, program managers, health service providers, health researchers, and immigrant community leaders who are particularly concerned with the health promotion and prevention of chronic illnesses.
Workshop Objectives
(1) To present the evidence gathered during the last year’s first annual workshop on expectations around the question: “how can we provide person-centred across cultures care for elderly in the home and nursing homes?”
(2) To discuss on “Multiculturalism and gender sensitive care” focusing on the “health promotion and prevention of chronic illnesses” among immigrant and minority women.
Questions for Small Group Discussion
- (a) Is a current approach of health promotion and prevention of chronic illnesses culturally safe?
- (b) What are the critical issues that are related to gender sensitivity?
