The Ontario Self-Employment Benefit Program (OSEB) is one of the most unique projects of its kind anywhere. The OSEB Program, delivered by the YMCA-YWCA provides unemployed people who are or have recently been eligible for Employment Insurance, with income and entrepreneurial support for up to 42 weeks while they develop and start their business.Participants learn the value of having a solid plan of action as the foundation for starting a business. In addition to income support, they are assisted in the development of a sound, strategic plan that serves as a living document to effectively manage their business.

We aim for each participant to achieve the following:

  • Gain an understanding of business concepts through core seminars and hands-on workshops.
  • Achieve business, financial, and digital literacy.
  • Develop critical thinking skills and strategies required to conduct research, to determine and seize opportunities, and to communicate effectively.
  • Apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes acquired through the program to tangible business applications and a rigorous planning and execution process.
  • Develop lifelong learning skills that will help new business owners to adapt to changes in technology, the economy, and important social trends.
  • Make connections that will help them take advantage of business opportunities, develop lasting community relationships, and create positive social change.

The primary goal of OSEB is to provide participants with the tools and support they need to successfully launch a business and create their own employment. Hundreds of people every year benefit from OSEB and turn opportunities into reality.

If you have the expertise, skill, talent or an enterprising mind with a passion to create a new business, this might be the opportunity you’ve been looking for. Create your own dream job and hire yourself! Visit OSEB.CA
