Strengthened Partnership with the Champlain LHIN

The Champlain Local Health Integration Network’s Integrated Health Services Plan (IHSP) 2016-19 now explicitly prioritizes immigrant health. In the new IHSP, providing culturally and linguistically appropriate health care is one of three priorities, focusing on the needs of the region’s Indigenous, francophone and immigrant populations. For the immigrant population, the Champlain LHIN will work with the OLIP Health & Wellbeing Sector Table to address the following specific goals:

o Help newcomers navigate the health system;
o Offer more interpretation services;
o Deliver culturally appropriate mental health services;
o Provide timely and coordinated care for refugees of all ages;
o Improve services for vulnerable seniors from immigrant communities;
o Improve data collection methods and knowledge of immigrants’ health to support future health system planning.
