The United Muslim Organizations of Ottawa Gatineau (GX-UMO-OG) is once again pleased to host Ottawa-Gatineau’s second annual I.LEAD (Islam. Learn. Engage. Achieve. Develop.) conference at the Palais des Congrès de Gatineau, 50 Boulevard Maisonneuve, Gatineau, on Saturday May 17, 2014.

The I.LEAD conference serves as a platform for the UMO-OG Member Organizations to work together on one common project. This conference is for youth and their families. The aim is to explore everyday issues impacting the lives of our community’s youth in ways that are welcoming, non-judgmental, and relevant.

Distinguished local, national, and international speakers representing our community’s theological, ethnic, cultural, and gender diversity will explore the theme of “Muslim Youth Identity” including family strength, cohesion and societal contribution.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the challenges of Muslim Youth Identity with respect to oneself, family and society and develop ways to navigate through these challenges;
  • Learn ways to engage, empower and support young people with respect to their Islamic identity and spirituality;
  • Find empowerment and support for building strong families, communities and contributing positively to Canadian society;
  • Participate in activities that promote community and nation building;
  • Discuss strategies to promote stronger attachments between youth and their faith teachings and expression;

By the end of the conference, I.LEAD will support the development of an action plan created through the collaboration of community leaders and youth representatives, which will be followed up throughout the year.
