Addressing Anti-Black Racism in Ottawa

In August 2016, the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP), City for All Women Initiative (CAWI), and local Black community members met at a forum. They discussed how anti-Black racism affects the lives of Black residents in Ottawa. This report summarizes what we heard. Our goal in documenting the discussions, concerns, and recommendations is to support ongoing reflection on anti-Black racism. We aim to help identify priorities and actions that promote racial equity in Ottawa.

This report summarizes the findings from the Anti-Black Racism forum on August 8, 2016, an event co-sponsored by the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership and the City for All Women Initiative. The forum was initiated by members of Ottawa’s Black communities. The report includes the Ottawa community’s recommendations for institutions and communities at large.
