Canada’s laws on extradition need reform. Extradition is the legal process where countries send individuals to face criminal charges in other countries. In Canada, extradition cases are handled by the International Assistance Group (IAG), a part of Justice Canada, under the 1999 Extradition Act. Extradition is important in the fight against transnational crime. Canada’s extradition system works well. So far, Canada fulfills most extradition requests from other countries. Individuals who are wanted for extradition usually do not succeed in challenging it.
