Past research shows that Afghan immigrants and their children face many challenges in settling down. These include displacement, language barriers, poor health, limited education, lack of access to services, and discrimination. Using data from Canada’s 2016 Census, this paper highlights poor labor outcomes for Afghan immigrants compared to others. Afghan immigrant sons do better than their fathers but have similar employment chances as other immigrant men. However, those who work generally earn more. Afghan immigrant daughters have better employment rates and earnings than other immigrant women. Home ownership rates for Afghan households are low.
